This week I turned 7. Can you believe it how time flies when you’re having fun. I have such a fun and happy life that I don’t really want for anything other than to go for my daily walkies and run on my wheel. So to celebrate my special day mummy took me for a walkies but today we did something slightly different. As you all know mummy takes me for walkies in new places sometimes and so today we went down to the footpath at the end of our road as it’s nice and quiet and peaceful down there. I can hear the trees swishing over head, the cows moo-ing and the sheep baa-ing whilst also sniffing out the odd bunny or two.
The path was full with plants and I could feel them tickle my tummy as we walked through them, they smelt fresh after a rain shower and every so often I stopped to have a little munch on them. Then mummy said “which way do you want to go Jen?” I stopped and held my head up and sniffed the air and followed the most interesting scent. What a good choice of direction it was, I had kind of been this way before, mummy said it was something called a field, we had never been all the way in before, just to the edge really. Although mummy did help me climb something called a gate, it was fun to walk along but a very tricky balancing act as it was quite wobbly.
As we went into the field there was an interesting rustling sound, a bit like the sound of the leaves in the trees but low down and kind of like a whisper. I liked that kind of sound and as mummy and I ventured further I realised that it was the sound of super tall grass and mummy said that there was so much grass that it went almost as far as she could see.
Then mummy did something really different, just when I thought she couldn’t get any dafter than she is already she started running, shouting “Come on Jen, keep, up, try and catch me!” Well I don’t really have much choice as I’m attached to her with the lead but off I went in hot pursuit chasing after her, leaping through the grass to try to catch her. When mummy stopped, something to do with not being able to run and laugh at the same time, I caught her and we had a little cuddle and I meowed and meowed at mummy as it was such fun leaping through the grass to play with her, I’m not sure it’s a fair race as she has much longer legs that me but then I’ve got four and can bounce through the grass like, as mummy put it, a tigger.
Let’s go again I meowed so off we went, running this way and that, going up and round and across and down, backwards and forwards and back again. All the while with mummy laughing and me meowing with happiness. We stopped for a breather and a quick cuddle and mummy said to me “I hope no-one’s watching us Jenny, here I am with a cat on a lead, running round a field, laughing whilst trying to film it on my phone, they’re going to think we’re completely mad if they see us now!”
I don’t care mummy, this is just so much fun, let’s go again I meowed excitedly….and off we went again.
Earlier in the week mummy took me for a late walkies up at the nature reserve. We walked and walked and walked and then walked some more. We walked over hard surfaces, soft surfaces, damp surfaces and some which were a bit soft and squishy. Somehow we seemed to get caught up in amongst some people running, I don’t know quite why they were running as they’re gonna miss all the fun and interesting things that are all around us, there’s no way they can take in all the beauty of nature if they’re not taking their time to wander gently like mummy and I do. To keep out of the way of the runners mummy guided me slightly off the track and we found a quiet place where we were alone together again, there were some funny noises and this place smelt different to other places I’ve been, I could hear a gentle, slightly familiar sound and combined with a slightly familiar scent of fresh water I could only fink that mummy and I had found a giant puddle. According to mummy this giant puddle is called a pond and the funny noises I could hear that I thought were just odd sounding birds were something called moorhens which were hiding away from me and mummy under some trees away over the other side of the water. Mummy let me explore around the decking area but she kept me on a short, locked lead when I started to try to get a closer sniff of the water and stuck my head through the fence. “No Jen” she said, “you can’t go in there, you’ll get wet paws and it’s deep so I don’t want to have to fish you out if you slip. Plus we don’t want to scare the creatures that live here, they won’t be used to seeing a cat here”

After I’d explored round the pond we carried on our walk and only saw a couple of the runners on the way back, they had lapped us so it was the second time they had thanked mummy for moving over and letting them past, they sounded quite tired.
I’ve had such a great week and I feel so lucky to be able to do such fun things and spend time in the beautiful outdoors. I hope that I can bring you a little of the joy that I feel through my stories and sharing my adventures with you.
