Well, the alarm clock went off as normal and mummy got up and got dressed, us girls all followed her into the bathroom whilst she did all her morning stuff and then as usual we all headed through to the living room, opened up the balcony for some fresh air and sunshine whilst mummy sorted out our breakfast. All fairly normal stuff but then after that instead of heading off to the other room to spend the day typing on her machine and talking to people that aren’t really here she put her boots on and then her coat. That is strange as we never go for morning walkies but always being hopeful and always ready for a trip outside I ran to the front door meowing to mummy “are we going for a special walkies mummy?” Then I reached up to help open the door and then rolled around on the floor meowing in excitement.

Then mummy said “I’m sorry Jenny but you’ll have to wait till I get back to go walkies.” “What do you mean when you get back? Where are you going and why are you going without me? Can I come too?” I meowed. Apparently mummy had to go to work and it’s not somewhere that I can go too! But what am I going to do all day? How can I supervise her if she’s not here? How can I join her meetings and tell the people she talks to how well she’s doing? What’s she going to do without me reminding her when it’s time to go walkies? How will she cope without me and who’s going to keep me company all day?
So I had to make sure that daddy was doing all his work and look after the kids (Millie and Angelin), make sure Peppar was ok, although as long as he’s fed and has a warm snuggle bed he’s just fine. So Angelin kept daddy company, having a nap on his lap and then making sure that he was alert by making him play with her with her favourite crinkle toy. I walked around organising everyone but I really missed mummy. In the afternoon I started to get really anxious, she had been gone so long and it was nearly walkies time and normally around this time I start telling mummy that she’s done all her work for the day and it’s time to finish up and take me out. Well, it was past walkies time and she still wasn’t home. Was she ever coming home?

Daddy said I had ants in my pants coz I kept going to the front door and rolling around meowing, then into mummy’s work room to try to find her, then out onto the balcony and back round again. So he played my favourite game of damp hands to make me feel better and pass some time and played football with me to keep me busy until I settled down again to wait for mummy to come back. I love it when daddy plays with me and keeps me company whilst mummy is away but… “Is she coming home yet daddy? When’s she coming home? Is she nearly home yet?” I kept asking. Daddy kept telling me “it won’t be long Jenny, mummy will be home soon to take you out for walkies and I’m sure she’ll give you a big cuddle when she gets in, she misses you too”
Then eventually, well after walkies time, I heard the familiar sound of mummy’s footsteps outside the door I meowed loudly and excitedly and rushed to the door, then as I heard the key turn in the door I shouted “Mummy’s home”. As she walked in the door I was so excited to see her I burst out all at once “Mummy, where have you been? Why have you been gone so long? Can we go for walkies now? Oh and I missed you”. She said hello to me and told me she missed me but then walked straight past me, no cuddle like daddy promised, not even a little stroke! I was so sad, she didn’t miss me at all. Then she took off her coat and I thought this is it, cuddle time but NO! She went into the bathroom and started washing her hands, I followed her in, pulled the mat off the side of the bath and curled up on it in protest she said “Just be patient Jenny I just need to wash my hands just in case I’ve got the nasty virus 🦠 on them so I can make sure you’re all safe and don’t get poorly.”

Then, after what seemed like ages she finally bent down, scooped me up and gave me a big cuddle, she told me again how much she missed me and asked if I’d been a good girl for daddy. I knew then it wouldn’t be long before we went for walkies and I just needed to wait just a little bit longer. Then I heard her taking off her boots! Off….hang on she needs those on to go out, what is she up to? I’m not good at waiting and being a bit worried that mummy had got less ready to go out I kept rushing backwards and forwards to the door just to make sure that she didn’t forget. Then bingo, I heard the cupboard open, this is where my harness is kept, then (finally) I heard daddy open my accessory box to chose a bandana and after much excited chasing round the flat (I play chase with daddy when he tries to put my harness on) clip, clip goes the harness round me and I’m ready to go. I heard mummy putting her boots and coat back on and so I rushed to the door telling mummy to hurry up and take me out.
We had such fun, I think mummy felt guilty about leaving me so we had a good long walk, running chasing branches and leaves and of course climbing.
