Changing days

Every day seems different, one day it’s warm and sunny and the next it’s cold and the suns hiding behind the clouds. What’s going on?

Either way at night it seems to be getting extra cold for it being springtime but that’s ok, I still love sitting out on our balcony for hours and hours, just listening to the world go by beneath me. Listening to the foxes scurrying about, the noises of the river in the distance and people going about their evenings in their homes. Sometimes Angelin joins me and we sit there together quietly, just keeping each other company, she fluffs up her fur to keep herself warm. She’s short furred like me but her fur is much silkier and thicker than mine so she can keep herself extra warm. The cold doesn’t bother me though and I’ll happily sit outside for hours. Millie on the other hand rarely goes out when it’s cold or windy, which as the floofiest she should be the one who is best suited to colder weather but no, if it’s too cold she refuses to go out but wherever there is a sun spot that’s where you’ll find Millie.

I don’t know what to wear on walkies, a bandana to keep my chest warm or a bow tie to celebrate the sunshine. Sometimes mummy is wrapped up warm in her furry coat and winter boots, other days she leaves her coat behind and has her summer shoes on. I can tell what she’s wearing from the noises she makes, her coat makes a gentle swish as she moves and it feels different on my paws when I climb down her arm from the trees and her boots are clompy as she walks about but her summer shoes are quiet and just make a gentle squish noise.

Just chillin’ in ma tree

When the weather is colder I love to run around and chase things, darting this way and that, it really gets the blood flowing and the muscles warmed up. Then one big run around the grass at full speed and then a quick turn and I’m heading straight for my favourite tree. Just when mummy thinks I’m going to run head first into it up I go, clearing the first bit of the tree trunk in one big jump and then scurrying up and up until, I get to the point that spoil sport mummy won’t let me go any further and I feel the pull of the lead stopping me from reaching the top. “That’s far enough Jenny” she says, but mummy I meow I want to go all he way up, right to the top.

When it’s warm and sunny and I’m out there on the balcony soaking up the sun I always try to get in a bit of exercise, I need to keep my muscles in tip top shape for all the climbing and adventuring that I do.

Morning stretches in the sun

Then when it’s colder there’s nothing better than being in the snuggle bed, warm and cosy, purrfect for a cosy nap. Oh but actually, there is something better, being in there with Millie and snuggling up with all her long floof making my nap extra cosy. Ok so you might get a paw in the face or a tail up your nose or sat on. Of course I pretend to mind her taking all the space or sitting right on me but I don’t really. Sometimes I even give Millie a free washing session as a thank you for keeping me warm and cosy. It’s always handy to have someone wash those places you can’t quite reach properly yourself.

Snuggle fest

I really hope that springtime comes properly soon so I can spend the warmer weather sitting outside all the time (or as long as mummy and daddy will let me). Maybe mummy might even take me for extra daytime walkies at the weekend too if I’m a really good girl. Imagine that double weekend walkies, that would be pawesome, I could sit with mummy in the sun and stalk the birdies and chase insects or just chill in my tree and listen to the world go by. Maybe I could even make some new furriends too.

Mischief makers

I just can’t resist it sometimes, doing something that I know I shouldn’t but it just feels so good (and fun). I’m talking about rolling. Whilst the weather is warm and dry I love nothing better than a good roll in the sand or dirt. When we go out on walkies I run straight over to the sand, lie down and roll around, over and over,, wriggling this way and that way, even getting right down on my tummy and as mummy says swimming in it!

Getting the sand right down into all the layers of my fur, making sure I’m completely covered, from nose to tail. Then just when mummy thinks I’m all done, off I go again, please mummy, just one more roll I meow. “Well, go on then, seeing as you’re already filthy, one more won’t make any difference.” Woo hoo!

Then when I’m all done, I have a good shake and make little Jenny dust clouds 😺 as I run off to chase a fly. Then mummy gives me a good all over rub, from my head to my bottom, using her fingers to give me a tickle too and we make more little dust and fur clouds. I love this game and it makes me tingle all over. Again! Again! Again! Mummy I meow with delight and then off we go and carry on with our walkies.

Sometimes I roll in the sand and sometimes in the dry mud out in the gardens, I don’t mind which one but at the moment the sand is my favourite coz it gets right down into the fur. Even after a long walkies and having mummy give me a good rub down, when we get in daddy takes off my harness, gives me a stroke all over and kisses my head. “You’ve been rolling again, haven’t you?” He says as he wipes his mouth from all the bits of sand that he got when he kissed me and I proudly meow yes daddy and it felt good.

I just hope that I don’t roll so much that a good rub isn’t enough to get rid of all the muck, I really wouldn’t want a bath so I’ll just have to remember that when I get carried away rolling.

Of course Millie couldn’t go without a bit of mischief this week too. It was early o’clock when she decided to knock mummy’s plant pot off the bathroom side. Crash, bang! Poor Mr. Spikey was all over the bathroom floor and Millie was just a ginger streak disappearing along the bottom of the bed. Poor mummy had to clear up all the soil and put Mr. Spikey into another pot, she wasn’t very happy at all! It reminded me when I knocked mummy’s pot of smelly stuff off the back of the toilet.

And don’t think that Angelin doesn’t join in with the mischief too, despite her angelic name she can be a little devil sometime. She works her way along the shelf of the bookcase and knocks off all mummy’s ornaments one by one. Then she sits there, according to mummy and daddy looking all sweet and innocent. You had better not leave anything on the dining table either as Millie with her giant paws will just can’t resist swishing anything off onto the floor.

I guess we’re just so full of life that we can’t always hold it all in, we are cats after all and just love to do what comes naturally to us which includes a little mischief from time to time. Luckily for us we have such lovely pawents that, whilst they might tell us off, they don’t stay mad at us very long. Well how could anyone stay mad for long when we all have such cute faces?

How could anyone stay mad at this face?

Happy birthday to my bestest friend

We’ve been helping mummy celebrate her special day. It’s no secret that I love my mummy, she’s my best friend, my soul mate, my inspiration, my adventure buddy and my protector.

Mummy and I do everything together and I was so happy when she said that this weekend we would have extra time together as there’s something called a bank holiday which means mummy doesn’t have to work. Woo hoo, more playtime, more fun, more mummy and me time. Even better though the sun is shining and the birds are singing, springtime is truly here and I just love it.

I took mummy on an extra long walkies to celebrate and we climbed trees together and chased some birdies. Sadly mummy doesn’t actually climb the trees with me which would be really fun as we could play in the branches together but even as a small size human she might still be a bit too big to be safe in the branches. I think it would be quite a laugh to see her try though. We did have fun when I climbed the tree with all the flowers on, as I moved around mummy was laughing, she said I was showering her with flowers which were fluttering down on her as I walked on the branches.

The flowers smell lovely, here…try some mummy

Happy birthday to the person who takes me walkies even when she’s not well, the one who cleans Millies ears and washes her chin even though Millie hates it. The one who risks life and limb and clips our claws and who puts up with us joining in her work meetings and typing kitty language on her typing machine. She scoops our poop 💩 and cleans up our sickies and takes us to the v-e-t and looks after us if we’re poorly.

Best of all this weekend, mummy got presents which means boxes to help open and mummy gave Angelin got a new box fort to defend and we all got crinkly paper to play with.

Angelin got a new supersize box fort, complete with crinkly paper lining

We got to give mummy extra snuggles too, all cuddled up on her lap whilst she got to drink her special bubbly birthday drink which daddy had to top up coz we had pinned mummy down.

Snuggle puddle

I could go on and on for ages and ages about why I love my mummy so much and why she’s my soul mate. Maybe it’s coz she lets me climb her like a tree, maybe it’s coz she always puts us first, maybe it’s coz she sees past our differences and sees what we can do rather than what we can’t. I really can’t put my paw on any reason, all I know is that there’s three little human words that say it best but none of us could have dreamed or wished of having a better mummy to adopt us and make us part of her family.

We love you.

Happy birthday mummy

Happy Birthday Millie

Well, there’s only one of us in the family that just had to have an April Fools Birth date and yes, you guessed it, it’s Millie.

I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to my not so little sisfur Millie who turned 4 on April Fools Day. I know that when you arrived, Millie I wasn’t the most welcoming but I was just scared of someone new coming into my home. I took a long time to understand that you were here to be my furriend, my sisfur and a part of my furramily. I was confused by your loudness, I hadn’t encountered someone quite so vocal before. As a blindie everything I do is normally measured and calculated and here you are running around like a mentalist and that takes some getting used to. My street cat senses say that things that rush around are something to be wary of, something to be afraid of as they come up around you and might hurt you. It took me a long time to realise that you weren’t anything to be scared of, you are just full of life and don’t let your one back leg hold you back or slow you down. It just takes me a little while to get used to new things sometimes.

Snuggle buddies

You never let my initial rudeness flatten your spirits and you just kept being you until I finally realised that you’re just a big, happy floofykins who loves nothing better than playing with your favourite nobbly balls and snuggling down for a cuddle. Sometimes with mummy or daddy and sometime with me or Angelin.

Always keeping a watchful eye, even if I’m out on walkies

I agree with mummy and daddy when they say you’re the glue in our little family, the lynchpin without whom we just wouldn’t gel like we do now. You’re so mumsy, always making sure Angelin and I have washed behind our ears, watched those hard to reach places and aren’t afraid to check Anegelin has cleaned her bottom properly by sticking your nose right up there to have a good sniff.

You’re always there watching over us, keeping an eye on us, making sure we’re all ok and you’re always the one who keeps us all company when we just want to chill out or do a bit of bird watching from the balcony. You’re always there for us, especially if we need cheering up, you’ve always got the knack or a trick up your fur to make us laugh and feel better.

Bird watching is always better with company

You’ve had a tough year with your paw and sore head and whilst you were poorly the house just seemed a bit too quiet, it had lost some of it’s excitement, electricity and the usual crazy pace we’re used to. I’m so glad we’re back to ‘normal’ now

Sweet sisfur

I hope you had a great day and I’m so glad that you’re part of our perfectly imperfect furramily, I wouldn’t have it any other way you crazy ginger girl.

Spring cleaning

Mummy and daddy have been spring cleaning, that means everything cleaned from top to bottom and a fun time to be their good little helpers. Of course every task they do needs to be supervised and then inspected and it’s a lot of work so it’s just as well there’s three of us and only two of them!

Mummy did the windows so of course I climbed up onto the ledge to inspect and point out that she missed a bit and by putting my paws all over the bottom window when climbing up she realised she had to do it again as it just wasn’t good enough! She seemed to think that it was ok and it was my paws that were “mucking up her clean windows” but that just goes to show that her standards aren’t as high as a blind cats!

Hmm I think you missed a bit mummy

Daddy got rid of all the crunchy limescale bits in the bath and this was great fun as we love playing in the bath (as long as it’s empty) but apparently cats claws are not the same as the coin that daddy used to scrape away the this stubborn stuff. Seriously I think daddy is underestimating the power and versatility of our claws. Still we let him get on with the hard work and of course sat there in and around the bath just judging him and his work instead.

Then there’s the dusting, mummy used these fluffy dusters and I love helping with this bit. The dusters make gently little swooshing sounds which are just so tempting to catch. I follow mummy everywhere she goes, meowing to her that she needs to do this bit and that bit and when she misses a bit I pounce on the duster to make her realise she needs to go back. I even help reach up at the front of the units to make sure she does all of those and the drawer handles, standing right up high on my tippy paws and reaching the highest handle this one first mummy, then this one, don’t forget this one over here. The fluffy bits tickle my paws when I pounce on them and sometimes when I try to catch it with my teeth I just get a mouthful of fluff. Mummy and I chat away whilst we do this and she always says “where shall we go next Jen” or “shall we go over here now?” Then every so often she says “well maybe I should just dust you, after all it’s mostly your fur that I’m picking up and then she tickles me all over with the fluffy bits, I just love it and meow and chirp as the fluff tickles me all over. Dusting is such a fun game, I’m not sure why mummy doesn’t seem to like it very much, I wish we played it more often!

All this spring cleaning makes me think I need to give my little pink toe beans a clean too

We also play a game with daddy when he cleans the glass tables, as soon as he’s done it up we hop to have a good look and then apparently, much like the windows, he has to do it again to get rid of our paw prints. The game is that we try to put as many paw prints on the table before daddy touches our paws with the cloth. If you get tagged with the cloth then you’re out. Even with two blindies playing daddy doesn’t stand a chance against our super blindie senses, we just know where the cloth is and we hop off the table before daddy gets too close plus Millie only has three paws to avoid daddy with so she’s already got an advantage against him. The game can go on for a long, long time. We’re like a tag team, the three of us taking turns Millie first, then as she nearly gets wiped off, Angelin jumps up and as her paws nearly get the cloth treatment it’s my turn, sometimes I even get the chance to get a little twirl in too before daddy gets close to me with the cloth. Then we feel sorry for daddy so we let him at least catch one of us so he feels a bit better but we always make sure we win the table cleaning game, it will never be completely paw print free! Daddy says he’s never buying a glass table ever again.

Then mummy does the floors with the horrid puffing dragon machine. As if the hoover wasn’t bad enough, this machine makes loud huffing noises and makes the floor all warm and wet and it smells funny. I’m not sure why this machine is allowed to stay here coz if I made the floor all wet I’d be in trouble! We’re not allowed to help with this bit and mummy is really mean and shuts us out of each room as she does it. But then, just as mummy opens the door a little tiny crack to see if the bit she’s done is dry we all rush through to check what she’s been doing. “No girls! Get your paws off my clean floor!” She shouts but it’s too late there’s already a trail or three of paw prints 🐾. So off she goes again with the dragon machine puffing away for a second time. This time though she’s much more careful when opening the door again and says to us “if any of you dare to go out there again there’ll be trouble.” Well, we’re cats so we’re used to trouble so sometimes we go again and sometimes we don’t! Either way we win 😺

Playing on the wet floor adds added fun as we slip and slide about. That is until mummy catches us and kicks us out again.

Recently daddy bought a new toy to do something called “cleaning the grout” it sound like mummy’s toothbrush and so I hope he’s not just using that to clean the bathroom floor with. Millie loves this new toy and as the bathroom is one of her favourite places she was right there with daddy helping him. She pointed out bits he’d missed by pouncing on the buzzing toy and this meant that daddy had to do some bits again but this time with some chemical. So Millie was tasked with being the door supervisor and daddy said she wasn’t to let any of us into the bathroom whilst daddy was inside. Then after a while daddy came out and said that we still couldn’t go in for a while until it was all dry. The smell coming from under the door was irresistible and we were all desperate to go in but Millie stood her ground and even though she was excited about the smell she wouldn’t let us in. Eventually daddy came back and we were allowed in to inspect his handwork. We all rolled around over the floor inspecting and sniffing ever bit to make sure it was all done. Well daddy had done a good job but we decided to stay in there for a bit just to make sure (and enjoy the smell).

I would just like to say that whilst we help out with the housework we’re never left alone or unsupervised and we’re never allowed near any of the stinky chemicals that mummy and daddy use until they say it’s safe for us to be near.

After a hard days work it’s time for a nap 💤

Nurse Jenny reporting for duty

Mummy has been poorly this week so we’ve all be doing our best to make her feel better. It’s not that we don’t always look after her but this week she really needed a bit of extra love. Mummy is normally always doing things, pottering about the flat doing things here and there but what’s not normal is mummy to spend a whole day in bed, just watching the tv and with daddy bringing her drinks and soup. I’ve never seen mummy like this before so I thought that it was time for once to look after mummy like she normally looks after me.

Whilst mummy was napping I crept up onto the bed and snuggled up with her, tucked in as close as I could get. Even though she was dozing I know that she would feel better with me snuggled in, you don’t need to be awake to feel love and caring being shared. Then a bit later Millie came along and took a nursing shift and she snuggled her warm, floofy fur into mummy’s feet, with the warm sun and Millies soft fur this was bound to help mummy get well quickly.

Then when it got to the evening much to my surprise mummy got up and started to get dressed. I ran to tell daddy “daddy, daddy, mummy’s getting up, she’s not well enough and needs to go back to bed, she’s still sneezing and blowing her nose and sounds awful.” Daddy went in and chatted with mummy and then said “Jenny sweetheart, mummy’s getting ready to take you for walkies. I know she’s poorly but she loves your walks so much that she doesn’t want to let you down.” I promised daddy that I’d look after mummy and make sure we’re not out for too long.

Mummy and I had a great walkies, I took it slowly for her but obviously still climbed a couple of trees and chased some birds. At least while I’m tree climbing mummy can just stand and watch which is nice and easy for her. Whilst we were chatting, mummy told me that her mummy had always said that if you were feeling poorly that along with resting fresh air is always good to help heal and recover. When we got home mummy was really tired so we had bath time, then dinner and with full tummies we all relaxed on the sofa and chilled out together with daddy and watched some tv

Then I got a package delivered, with my name on it and everything, it was a lovely present from my furriend Oscar, his mummy had made a beautiful handmade blankie in mummy’s favourite colour purple. Of course I tried it out first, then Millie had a turn and then as a special treat (just coz she’s poorly) I let mummy try it out too and then once she was comfy Millie and I hopped on and we all snuggled up together, keeping mummy nice and warm. As mummy was suffering from enforced kitty paralysis it also mean daddy had to get anything mummy needed so it meant she could rest up some more. Even Angelin who doesn’t normally like blankies at all snuggled up on this one so that just shows how extra special the lovingly made gift is.

Even when mummy was feeling a bit better and was up and about I still made sure that I kept her spot warm by curling up on her pillow, just in case she needed somewhere to have a little nap. We were all such good nurses that mummy was feeling better in no time at all and was back to her normal self, whilst she was still a bit tired and went to bed early that was ok as it was just an excuse to have more cuddles. It was so strange to have mummy so poorly, I’ve never known her to spend all day in bed so we’re all much happier now she’s back to normal and our nursing duties are over, although the extra snuggles were really nice. I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t have got better so quickly without our expert help, us kitties make excellent nurses. So with nurse maid duties over, we’re back to normal and having our regular energetic walkies, lots of playtime and of course bath time as all that always helps keep mummy in tip top shape.

All that is left to say now is happy Mother’s Day mummy, you’re the best mummy in the world, you scoop our poop every day, you tidy up after we’ve raided the toy basket and even when your sick you still put me first and make sure I get my walkies. You’re the best mummy in the whole world.

To the best mummy three little rescue kitties could ever have.

I’ve got a spring in my step

The days have been getting warmer and the nights a little bit shorter and so I’m starting to celebrate one of my four most favourite seasons. I know, I know they’re not all supposed to be my favourite but how could I possibly choose just one? When you’re a blindie like me the changing of the seasons is so exciting, everything changes, sounds, smells, textures, temperature and it makes the same walkies different for the whole year round. When mummy and I go out now for our daily walkies the birds are still tweeting and chirping and teasing me, as I climb the trees I can feel the new little leaves starting to grow and I can smell the scent of the little flowers starting to open. It’s such an exciting time and I know that this means that soon the little buzzing insects will be out and I can have fun running around chasing them, zig zagging this way and that, leaping and jumping trying to catch them, all to meowmy’s amazement as she can’t see what I’m chasing!

I love playing with the birds but they tease me so much, tweeting away and then when I get close off they fly so I never get to play with them. I’ve even tried sitting there really, really quietly waiting for them to come closer but even that didn’t work. So, I put on my baby duck bow tie as camouflage to try to blend in and get closer to the birds , maybe they’ll think I’m one of them and if I sit still enough in the tree maybe, just maybe they’ll come within paw distance so I can finally play with them.

I’m a master of disguise, I fooled you didn’t I? it’s me…Jenny in case you couldn’t tell!

My friend Pepper has been coming out to play nearly every day and he is very excited about it and runs after me, trying to pounce on me and nibble my tail! I’ve had to teach him some manners but that’s ok, he’s just so young and lives on his own so doesn’t have any other cats to show him what’s polite and what isn’t. Most of the time though he’s fun to play with and we play hide and seek and chase and I’ve taught him how to climb the trees but I draw the line at him climbing my trees at the same time as me! That’s just not on, I’m the queen of the trees and they’re mine – paws off Pepper! I might be a blindie but I’ll stand my ground (well tree) and defend myself, I you think you can sneak past me you’d better think again, you can’t get the better of me and my super blindie senses…plus I’ve got street cat fighting skills so you’d better watch out.

Hey! I’m the Queen of the trees 👑 🌲

I love just sitting, listening to the world go by and the hoomans coming out to play in the park from one of my favourite tree top spots. Sometimes to get the best vantage point I’ve gotta do something that mummy calls ‘tree twister’. It’s not always the most comfortable or elegant way to climb but when I’m honed into an interesting sound all my paws suddenly get a life of their own and do whatever they need to do to get my head and ears exactly where they need to be to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. Then the chase begins…

I love a game of tree twister

I love this time of year, everything is new and fresh and smells just great. Spring brings new life, new joys and I know there are fun times ahead.

It’s my 4th Adoptaversary

Four years ago today, very early in the morning a tired and scared little kitten arrived in their furrever home. That scared little kitten was me and oh boy did I land on my paws with the furrever home that I found. Now, four years on I’m not that scared little kitten I used to be, Im a confident adventure cat, living my best life with mummy and daddy and my little sisfurs. Exploring the great outdoor, climbing trees, chasing birds and insects and playing with my sisfurs and my friends. I’ve got comfy beds or a lap to sleep in whenever I want and food on tap, so never an empty or grumbling tummy.

My first night in my furrever home.

What an amazing four years it’s been, there have been highs and lows, good times and bad and we’ve gone from the Fab Four to the terrific three but even though I miss my sisfur and brofur that have travelled over the rainbow bridge I wouldn’t change any of these last four years. I will never forget my early life growing up on the streets of Cyprus, it was the making of my character, it’s what made me the cat I am today. The thing is now though I’m part of a family and I kind of like it, I know for sure that no matter what life throws at me I am loved, cared for and safe.

I might not be able to see but I sure opened mummy and daddy’s eyes as to what us blindies and purrfectly imperfect cats can do and what we can be. In fact, as you know mummy and daddy were so impressed with me and how awesome I am that they went on to adopt Millie and Angelin as well and expand our purrfectly imperfect family.

In celebration of my special day I’ve put together a little compilation for you to enjoy (ok I might have let mummy help with this bit). It covers everything from my rescue day through to my first day with my new family and my life since then, it shows me as an adventure cat, queen of the trees and a cute, content snuggle bunny. I think the pictures tell my story better than I can and show just how happy I am and what an exciting and enriched life I have.

A quick recap of me

Happy adoptaversary to me and i can’t wait to ‘see’ what the next four years brings 😺. Thank you mummy and daddy for choosing a scrawny little blind ex street kitten from Cyprus to be part of you family….now let’s party 🎉

Freedom!

Just a quick Millie update

Millie is finally cone free, its such a relief for her as she had been in it for so long. All her own fault apparently as if she hadn’t kept scratching it then she would have been free much quicker. You can’t blame a girl for trying though and she was very clever in finding ways around it! It makes my life a bit more comfortable as well as having Mille sleeping on me with a cone wasn’t exactly the most comfortable way to have a good cat nap. Plus, now, she’s back to her old mad self again so were back to ‘normal’ or as much as we ever were. And as much as she can be a bit mental and annoying I wouldn’t have her any other way. She’s my sisfur and I love her just the way she is.

Daddy says she’s still got a bit of a bald head but now she’s stopped scratching she’s got what he calls, soft fluffy peach fuzz growing on her head. Well I don’t know what she’s done now but I hope her fur grows back quickly and gets rid of the peaches!

Millies peach fuzz

Whilst she had her cone of shame on Millie’s Christmas present finally arrived – can you believe that it took so long to get here? So as a special treats for being so good and getting cone free she got to open her present. It was such fun and for once had us all curious as to what it might be, all three of us playing together, having fun and not even any fighting – what magical toy could bring such unity?

Yew can’t escape from us

Well, its a snake! A toy snake that Millie says has light up eyes but it chases us! it wiggles around the floor slithering after us with its red eyes flashing, then after a bit it falls silent, where’s it gone, I know its here somewhere and then, just as you think it’s dead and give it a whack just to make sure off it goes again! wriggling and chasing and challenging us to chase it. Well, we got it cornered, with three of us it doesn’t stand a chance – I know two of us are blindies but as you already know that doesn’t mean we can’t hunt. OK so I’ve hunted a lot outside with mummy whilst were on walkies and never yet caught anything but I blame mummy for that – she’s not exactly stealthy and just cramps my style outside. Inside though that’s a different story I don’t have her bumbling along behind me scaring everything away, I’m a lean, mean, fighting machine – until the snake turns round to chase me that is and then I’m off but only after I’ve got a good whack in!

Our new playmate

At least now Millie and I can snuggle in comfort without her continually doinking me on the head. Balance has been restored and we’re back to our usual purrfectly imperfect family.

Peaceful snuggle time

I’ve got a new playmate

A couple of weeks ago I met a little black panther cat called Pepper. He was quite shy and ran away when I went over to say hello but he’s been watching me and mummy and following us when we go out on walkies. Bit by bit he’s become a bit more friendly and now when I go for walkies he follows me and mummy round. If he’s inside his home then he shouts at his mummy to let him come out to play. So now, mummy has me on the lead leading the way with mummy following along behind and Pepper bringing up the rear, “come on Pepper keep up”mummy says.

First of all he just followed us around at a distance, curious and timidly stalking, always there in the background. Every time mummy turned round there he was following us, curious about who we were, what we were doing and where we were going. Then he started getting closer and closer and eventually came over to say hello to me. He came up fairly close to me and we had a little nose to nose sniff but then I moved a muscle and he ran away, then came back, then ran away! Silly boy, I’m not going to hurt you, I’m a kitty cat just like you but a little different but it’s ok we can be furriends.

I can tell he’s just a youngster as everywhere he goes he runs at full speed and I can hear his paw steps whizzing around on the grass. Mummy says he was born at about the same time as my brofur Peppar crossed the rainbow bridge so maybe he was always destined to be my friend and playmate.

It turns out Pepper is an only cat and I don’t think he had met another cat before, let alone a blindie like me so I think he needs me to teach him some life lessons to get him ready for being part of our walkies and being able to have a fun playtime together. Because he’s so young he is full of energy and thinks it’s fun to whizz past me or hide in the bushes and jump out on me or come round in front of me and whack me on the head. We might be cats but we still need manners and to be respectful to each other, if he thinks I’ll just let him get away with that then he’s got another think coming! I might be blind but I can still teach you a lesson or two.

1. Behave! You’re a young boy and don’t just think that you can sneak up behind me and swipe my bottom without getting a telling off!

2. Just because I’m blind doesn’t mean I don’t know exactly where you are so don’t even think about trying to engage in a sneak attack from behind the bushes.

3. I’ll show you how to climb trees but hey paws off my favourite ones.

4. I’m the boss, these are my gardens and I’m just letting you use them – ok?

This is how you climb but these are my favourite trees! Hey go find your own to climb, yeah, you can have the tall skinny one over there.

So now I’ve laid out the rules we’re ready to go little Pepper, it’s playtime.

If you think you can outwit me by hiding in the flowers, you can think again, my super blindie senses know exactly where you are. I’m ready and waiting for you, ready to bop you on the nose if you try anything. I can hear you breathing, smell your scent and hear your pawsteps.

Playtime with Pepper

Playing with Pepper is really fun, he’s got bundles of energy and loves to play chase and hide and seek. Everything he does is at full speed and I feel him whizzing past me as he runs about trying to get me to chase him. He reminds me of Millie when she goes into mental Millie mode and runs around the flat like a mentalist. He is just full of energy and mischief, we even stalked a bird together but then he climbed my tree! My tree! The cheek!

After all the playing outside in the fresh air by the time I get home I’m all tired out, it’s tiring keeping up with a youngster so full of energy and excitement. So I’m ready for a snack, bath time with meowmy followed by a nap. It’s really fun having a playmate but I also really enjoy having mummy all to myself when we’re outside, I do love that mummy and me time that we have together.
