Whilst the pawents are away the kitties play.

It all started on a Saturday morning, not this one but the last one, mummy and daddy were rushing round tidying the house and making sure it was all clean and tidy. Cleaning this and moving that and making beds, we helped with everything, making sure that they did it all right and didn’t miss anywhere with Millie and I paying special attention to the bed making which is the most fun chore of all, well mummy calls it a chore we call it playtime. It’s not normal behaviour for them to do this on a Saturday as the weekends are usually housework free days except for cleaning up after us and feeding and playing with us. So we all started to wonder what was going on but then mummy said it was time for walkies, which is a very normal daily activity, so off we went and I thought nothing more of it. Maybe they were both feeling a bit poorly but I checked their noses and licked their hands and they felt ok to me so maybe they’re just a bit confused, they are getting older after all. Then just after dinner a car pulled up in the driveway and mummy said “They’re here!” “Who’s here I meowed?” “Your Aunty and Uncle have come to stay Jen” daddy said. Well I’m not a fan of new people and it takes me a while to get to know their noises and smells but as long as mummy and daddy are here too then I’m sure it will be ok. As they came in Millie was right over to say hello and Angelin poddled over as well but I stayed at a respectful distance under the scratching post just sussing them out first.

They didn’t stay very long and soon they both left with mummy and daddy and the house was quiet again. Daddy said “don’t worry girls, we won’t be long, we’ll be back soon.” Whilst they were out we checked out the things that Aunty and Uncle had left behind, they smelled odd and I could detect a hint of doggie 🐶 on their bag. That’s ok though as it must mean they are animal people. Mummy and daddy wouldn’t let any kitty haters in our house. Eventually they came back and we all sat in the living room chatting and watching the tv with a bit of kitty playtime thrown in. Aunty and Uncle were nice, they just let us work them out in our own time and then when we were ready to say hello or play they were there to join in with us. A little stroke here and there and soon we all just chilled together, then I did something unusual, I hopped up where Aunty was sitting and curled up with her on the blankie. I could hear her gasp and say “oh wow! she’s got on my lap!” Mummy said “you should be very honoured, Jenny doesn’t normally do that unless she really knows you, she must like you.” It felt good to make someone’s day and make them feel good so I just put my head down and snuggled in. Then, eventually they all went to bed and then we settled down for the night as well, dreaming of chasing birds, climbing trees and in Angelin’s case dreaming of what’s for breakfast.

Eventually they all got up and we hung out in the living room before they all went off somewhere to have lunch and the house was all ours again until they got back but this time there was just mummy and daddy. Aunty and Uncle had gone back home so we’re were just us again, so time to relax and be back to normal again.

Then this weekend, again, Saturday morning cleaning and tidying and the same thing as before so I wondered if we were getting guests again. Then a car pulled up and it was Granda and Nanna, I recognised their smell and their voices this time but they were with two smaller humans who I’d not met before so I was a little bit wary, 4 more people is a lot for a little blind cat to cope with in one go but soon the two smaller humans and mummy and daddy left, “we won’t be gone long girls” daddy said, “be good for Granda and Nanna, said mummy” but where are you going, when will you be back, how do they know how to feed us and who’s going to play with us whilst you’re gone? So many questions, this wasn’t our usual mummy and daddy going away routine when we used to get left on our own to party and throw cat litter everywhere and destroy boxes and be spoilt rotten with treats. “It’s ok Jen we’re just going for one night and Granda and Nanna are going to stay and look after you, we’ve shown them everything so you’ll be just fine. Remember you’re in charge and you need to look after them and help them keep the other two in line. And remember to show them how to play as they would really love that.” Ok mummy I meowed I’ll try my best. And then they were off, leaving us alone (well with Nanna and Granda) for the first time since we moved here. I was a bit nervous and walked around shouting for mummy and trying to find her for a while but Nanna explained again that mummy and daddy would be back soon but her and Granda would look after us and that we’d all be ok. Nanna had a really calm voice and gave me a reassuring stroke so I felt much calmer and settled down to a weekend of being spoilt.

Can we come too?

Well, we needn’t have worried about anything, we had such a fun weekend, Granda is just like a big kitten, he just loves to play and stroke us and make a fuss of us. Nanna chats away to us as she’s getting the breakfast ready and making sure we’ve got everything we need. We were really spoilt all weekend, we played with every toy we’ve got, we got treats and Granda even played one of my favourite games damp hands with me and he even cleaned up my sickie, telling me that it would be ok and that I’d be just fine. As the night drew in and we all got tired from all the excitement we went off for a nap, I decided to keep an eye on Nanna and jumped on her bed, Millie kept mummy and daddy’s bed warm for them – just in case they came home and Angelin hopped up and snuggled on Granda’s lap and made his night.

Snuggles with Granda

As they were new to looking after us Angelin was very worried that they might not know when breakfast time is so we thought we should just make sure they know what time they needed to get up and feed us so as the loudest cat in the house (possibly the world) I tasked Millie with the important job of getting them up for breakfast. Right on cue in the morning she was there outside their rooms meowing at the top of her voice NAN! NAN! and would you believe it, it actually worked, what a result, breakfast was served.

Eventually after more playtime and games mummy and daddy decided to come home. Whilst we were all pleased to see them I really enjoyed spending time with my grandpawents and I hope they enjoyed being with us too, I hope I get to spend some more time with them soon.

Playtime

Thank you so much for looking after us so well and after such a weekend full of playtime and now mummy’s home it’s time for some down time.
