New friends and new adventure cats.

This week has been really exciting. I was out for walkies with mummy one day and we were just starting to head back I picked up an unusual scent off in the distance. This isn’t that unusual so I carried on exploring and working my way around the gardens weaving in and out through the bushes. Whilst I was doing this I could hear mummy talking to someone, again, this isn’t unusual so I carried on.

Then…I picked up a strong scent on the breeze, it was a scent that I recognised, it was the scent of another cat. I cautiously crept forward, towards the scent to try to figure out who it was, it wasn’t one of the regular cat scents that I come across, there’s a few out in my gardens, it was a new one but I could tell it was from a boy cat. I like boy cats so I ventured closer, then I heard a grumble in front of me – so not to be one to back down or be outdone I grumbled back. Then I heard mummy saying to me something about not being very polite and I should be nicer to the other pussy cat. So being a good girl I backed off a bit and wandered off to explore the flower beds and then gradually started to sneak back towards the boy cat, I couldn’t hear him but I knew he was there somewhere.

Oliver checking me out, he’s a bit shy.

Mummy was still talking to the other lady and then she said to me “Jenny, meet Oliver, he’s out for walkies with his mummy too. He’s only a youngster so you need to be nice to him and show him how to be an adventure cat like you.” Ok then I thought I’m going to give it a try, I’ll give him a bit of space first and so I’ll go and sniff some bushes to pretend I’m not interested. Then I crept back again very quietly to try to say hello to him and try to make friends. Oliver was a bit scared as he’s never met another cat before so we didn’t want to stress him out too much so after a little while of sniffing and a bit of hissing from Oliver we left him to explore and carried on with our walkies.

Then…even more excitement, we rounded a corner and I could hear the noise of a new human, one I hadn’t heard before. Then a strange noise, which I really wasn’t sure about, a strange tinkling noise. Then mummy said “You’re not going to believe this Jenny, it’s someone else out on walkies with a tiny kitten.” Mummy spoke to the lady and then she said to me “Jenny, come over and meet Romeo, he’s just a baby, he’s only four months old” well I went over to have a little sniff of him and say hello and maybe make another friend. Mummy said “Jenny it’s up to you to show Romeo how to be an adventure cat but you need to be very gentle with him as he’s never met another cat before so he might be scared of you.” What! Scared of me? Well I went over to say hello and he was a bit scared at first and his mummy was a bit worried but with mummy reassuring his mummy that we were both fine Romeo started to relax and get a bit more confident.

Little Romeo

He even started running after me when I wandered off to carry on walkies, but much like most boy cat he just got a bit too confident and so I had to just make sure that he knew I was the Queen and I was in charge, just a little warning but he needs to learn what’s acceptable kitty behaviour. Cheeky little monkey! We played around for a while and everywhere I went I could hear the tiny bounding paw steps of a very enthusiastic Romeo following along behind me. That noise was fine but the tinkling noise was following me too and I wasn’t quite sure about that. Mummy told me after that he had a bell and tag on his collar which made the strange noise and that it wasn’t anything to be worried about.

When Romeo met Jenny

Then after a while it was time for Romeo to go home and we said goodbye and mummy and I carried on with our walkies. “Well Jenny, it looks like I’m not the only mad cat lady living here after all, maybe we’ve started something.” Maybe we have mummy, I meowed, maybe they saw us outside having fun and decided to join us.

That night tired out from all the excitement and as I was drifting off to sleep I just thought how great it would be if I have helped inspire a new generation of adventure cats. After all if a blind cat can go out adventuring and exploring then any cat can, they just need to persuade their hoomans to give it a try. Who would have thought it, I’ve gone from a homeless street kitty to an adventure cat inspiring others to do what I just love doing. How lucky am I to have such an amazing life?
