The purrfect walkies

What makes a good walkies?

Not too hot, not too cold; not too wet, not too dry; not to windy, not too still; not too sunny, not too dark; not too early, not too late. That’s the purrfect time to go walkies.

It doesn’t happen very often that it’s just right to go out and I really don’t mind if it’s not as I always enjoy being outside with mummy no matter what it’s like. Sometime though, every once in a while we get an extra good day for going out. The other day was that good day, it was just right and I was in a really good mood having slept all day to have loads of energy to go outside with and burn off.

Out on walkies

When we first went out the birds were still awake so I played with them for a bit trying to find where they were in the bushes and running after them when the flew away. There were some good smells around, the other animals had been out and about so I check those scents out and found out who had been around in my gardens since yesterday. Then off further up the gardens to explore some more and give mummy some exercise.

We explored right up to the far end, where it was a bit too windy but I’m getting used to that now so I don’t get too scared and even if I do mummy is there to reassure me that I’m not going to blow away. I ran around a bit and explored the bushes, then we headed back the other way which got gradually less windy, then we found the purrfect spot.

The birds were hiding in the bushes and getting ready to go to sleep so there wasn’t anything to chase until the wind came along to play with me. It was blowing just enough to move things around for me to chase and pounce on, ok it’s only a leaf or a bit of grass but it’s mine and I caught it! This chasing was just the start of my wind assisted zoomies, the wind was just the right amount of blowy to get me going. I just let myself go, running this way and that way, zig zagging across the grass, round and round, it was so exciting I even got big fuzzy tail, I just couldn’t help myself.

I’ll catch you

Then with zoomies in full swing, of course I’ve gotta climb a couple of trees, just because I can, I don’t always have to climb high, just climbing is fun and sometimes it’s just a tester climb for a bigger climb later on but I always want mummy to watch me and see how well I’m doing. Then once she’s told me what a clever girl I’ve been it’s back down and off again for the next run around and maybe another tree. It’s not often I let myself go completely but outside I feel so free that I can just be myself and do what comes naturally to me.

Wind assisted zoomies

The big winds used to scare me as they jumble up all the sounds but not anymore, I’m now a seasoned adventure cat so I’m pretty much used to everything Mother Nature can throw at me, even snow as you’ve seen recently. I don’t always like all of the more extreme weather but that’s ok, I go out, give it a try and then can always head back indoors again. Mummy never makes me go outside and it’s always up to me if I want to go back in again, that is unless it rains really heavily and I shelter under a bush whilst mummy gets wet coz she doesn’t fit under the bush with me. Then she just bundles me up in her arms and we run back indoors together.

The other purrfect time for walkies is when it’s the time when all the insects and bugs come out to play, when the flowers are out and spreading their lovely smells around, then there’s loads of things to chase and run after. I don’t need the wind to help me, there’s so much no on. I might be blind but I just can’t resist chasing those little buzzy wings whizzing past me, like they’re deliberately trying to make me chase them.

Then of course after all this running around and climbing it’s time for dinner and a good nap to rest and recover.
